Hiphop is the name of the Culture as a Whole. Hiphop is not the offical name of the Music. BUT The Offical Music of Hiphop is RAP. The difference your speaking of is Emcees and Rappers. Emcees are Lyricist / Wordsmiths. They stress their vocabulary when they rhyme. Also, Unsigned "rappers" are also called Emcees. Rappers are signed artist with record deals and usually rhyme with little effort. BUT most Emcees once they Make it big Call themselves RAPPERS. Not to say anything is wrong with the words. Its just that some people ( esp the Underground Back Packers ) Hate that Rappers Like CHINGY are getting PAID. NOW, with CORP AmeriKKKas confusion, they decided to MERGE R&B with Hiphop because THEY did not know the DIFFERENCE. All NIGGER look the same to them. The Definition you gave was the MTV definition. The Topic that you brought up is spoken about in this months issue of the SOURCE with KAYNE WEST on the cover. "RAP Is something you do. Hiphop is Something you live" KRS-ONE isnt there a difference between the hip hop (back packers) and rap? rap is more on the violence etc etc, were as hip hop is more spoken word, consiousness, poetry to music, and uplifment, were as rap is more get yo' ass on the flo' and touch ya toes!

Don't Blame HIPHOP for the Ill state of the BLACK and LATINO COMMUNITY. Blame J EDGAR HOOVER and the Counter Intelegence Program ( CoIntelPro ) Like the Sisiter said earlier. All those white boys just Pimping our Kulture. But The "TRUE HEADS" Know whats up. Turn off your radio. "In our time, Hip Hop summits and conferences of all sorts occur frequently. But after the challenges facing our Hiphop community are brought up and discussed at these summits and conferences, most Hiphoppas still continue to act in ways counter-productive to Hiphop’s development and still continue to participate in the same entertainment industry they say is …ripping them off! " KRSONE trust me i am not blaming anything on hip hop but hiphop represent the state of the black and latino community. It represents negativity. I am sure you have your Kayne West which comes around every once in a blue moon, but the system remains the same. And until the system is changed then nothing will change. It is the system not the music. The music industry on the whole is in control and unless this secret society can represent change in the way business is done, nothing will change. Like i said it is all debatable. Matter of opinion. what makes Talib Kweli more hiphop than Jay-Z? Is Rick rubin Hiphop? Russell Simmons? Nelly? KRS-1? Will Smith? The Source? David Mays? Benzino? If there is a yes to any of these question what makes them more hiphop than the next person? and speaking of KRSONE, he is just as hypocritical as York. He speaks of philosophy on one records and talking about hoes and bitches on the next. Now he is on some Gospel rap. I guess we turn to God when our career is over. Remember the song "When The Pussy is Free" by KRSONE? Or "The Bridge is Over"? Tell me why, though he was dising the juice crew why did he never diss Big Daddy kane or Kool G Rap?

Thats the Power of GOD in EFFECT. FREE WILL Sure KRS contradicts himself. Who doesnt? I now contradict things I would have said 5 or 10 years ago. Its Growth. The Representation of Hiphop is NEGATIVE. BUT thats only on TV. The Hiphoppers I speak to and hang around are not negative and none of them fit the MTV sterotype. The Temple of Hiphop does have an agenda on trying to take back what is ours when it comes to the Music Industry BUT ORDERLY CHANGE TAKES TIME. ( Our DAY will COME , HIPHOP is going to UNITE the WORLD ONE DAY ) OH YEAH, the REASON why HE never DISSED G RAP or KANE is because TONY KANE and KOOL G RAP were not the FRONT MEN of the JUICE CREW, they were still UNKNOWNS. HE didnt DIS a LOT of MEMBERS of the JUICE CREW. Criaig G, TJ Swan, Biz, I bet you didnt know that the GZA of the WU was down with the JUICE CREW for a SECOND... He never dissed any of them trust me i am not blaming anything on hip hop but hiphop represent the state of the black and latino community. It represents negativity. point taken and respect. I guessing that it is a matter of opinion. There is no true definition. You may be right, the ones doing it now make it so. Shabbat shalom

Have you ever heard of THE LAST POETS or GIL SCOTT HERON? They were Poets but also the PREDESORS of RAP. So was JAMES BROWN with SAY IT LOUD ( BLACK AND PROUD ). It was TALKING with RHYMES over a BEAT. SPOKEN WORD is part of Hiphop. They are just a Different type of EMCEE. actually i havent seen the source, but i went to a few poetry reading and hip hop locals were there was alot of 'concious' brothers and sisters (and no i dont mean JUST black- cause there was a MIXED crowd) they had live music, natural foods, and cool beats, they werent the bling bling-ers they have on the video. most of them was vegitarains or vegans, there was white AND black AND dreds, very laid back and peaceful atmosphere
