Kathy Johnson folks:  THE SO-CALLED WIFE OF FORMER NUWAUBIAN LEADER DWIGHT YORK IS SCHEDULED TO APPEAR IN STATE COURT ON TUESDAY FOR A SENTENCING HEARING. KATHY JOHNSON WAS ORGINALLY EXPECTED TO BE SENTENCED IN PUTNAM COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT ON MONDAY, APRIL 1ST, BUT HER PAPERWORK WAS STILL BEING HELD WITH THE SUPREME COURT PUTTING HER STATE SENTENCING ON HOLD. THE PAPERWORK WAS RETURNED TO PUTNAM COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT LAST WEEK, AND NOW THE SENTENCING WILL GO AHEAD ON TUESDAY. ________ Tuesday being Today, April 13, 2004. |

FOX 24’S PERRY SWANSON REPORTS THAT 35-YEAR-OLD KATHY JOHNSON, WAS LED OUT OF THE PUNTAM COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT ROOM AND INTO A WAITING CAR TO BE SPED OFF TO JAIL, TUESDAY. THE LEAD OF THREE SO CALLED WIVES OF FORMER NUWABIAN LEADER DWIGHT YORK PLEADED GUILTY TO SEVEN COUNTS OF CHILD MOLESTATION. JOHNSON WAS ACCUSED OF TEACHING CHILDREN HOW TO HAVE SEX WITH YORK, AND WAS GIVEN A SENTENCE OF TWO YEARS IN PRISON WITHOUT PAROLE, WITH NO CREDIT FOR TIME SERVED AND EIGHTEEN YEARS PROBATION. KATHY JOHNSON ALSO WILL NOT HAVE TO REGISTER IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA AS A SEX OFFENDER BECAUSE SHE HAS BEEN GRANTED FIRST OFFENDER STATUS. A FIRST OFFENDER WHO PLEADED GUILTY TO MOLESTING CHILDREN, AND PROSECUTORS SAY JOHNSON MAY HAVE TAKEN PART IN THAT ABUSE OVER A PERIOD OF FOURTEEN YEARS WITH CHILDREN AS YOUNG AS FOUR. IN MAKING THE GUILTY PLEA, IT WAS AGREED TO DROP ALL FEDERAL CHARGES AGAINST KATHY JOHNSON. JOHNSON WILL BE RELEASED FROM JAIL APRIL 13TH, 2006. MEANWHILE, FORMER NUWAUBIAN LEADER DWIGHT YORK PLED GUILTY TO 77-COUNTS OF CHILD MOLESTATION IN STATE COURT, AND WAS FOUND GUILTY IN FEDERAL COURT ON CHARGES OF RACKETEERING AND TRANSPORTING CHILDREN FOR SEX. YORK FACES UP TO 40-YEARS ON THOSE CHARGES, AND SENTENCING IS SET FOR APRIL 22ND. YORK'S OTHER TWO SO-CALLED WIVES, BOTH FORMER VICTIMS, MADE PLEA AGREEMENTS THAT WILL KEEP THEM OUT OF PRISON.

Cult leader's companion sentenced in molestation case

Telegraph Staff Writer
A companion of cult leader and convicted child molestor Malachi York will spend two years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to molesting four children.
Though not legally married, prosecutors describe Kathy Johnson as the "main wife" of York, leader of the United Nuwaubian Nations of Moors, a quasi-religious sect based on a sprawling, Egyptian-themed compound in Putnam County.
As part of the plea agreement in Putnam Superior Court, federal prosecutors agreed to drop their case against Johnson, said Dawn Baskin, an assistant district attorney in the Ocmulgee Circuit.
Johnson, 35, was taken to the Putnam County Jail after pleading guilty to seven counts of child molestation.
Superior Court Judge William A. Prior sentenced Johnson to 20 years in prison - two of which must be served with the remainder on probation. Johnson was also banished from Georgia, except for Clayton County, and will not get any credit for the five months she spent in federal custody in 2002.
"Many of the victims in this case are just ready for this to be over with," Baskin said. "We have victims calling us and begging us to bring this to an end."
