This a two fold thread. The first part is about africans in america and how we deal with the pain of slavery and its remnant effects that exists today and how it relates to the Body of GOD. Second part is a poem about the same thing.
In the bible it says that we are to submit to our masters, government, and authority until the Lord comes to redeem/reward us for our faith in his coming to destroy all oppressive systems. I have always been at odds with these teachings because I have been given the gift to speak and write on the oppressive nature of this hell we live in.
I do understand the spiritual logic behind the teachings. It forces us to the highest form of actions in the Body of GOD. We are to go beyond our fleshy selves and defeat that need to take certain actions into our own hands. But we are also called to take up action to improve the system as best we can.A good example of this is the civil rights movement and the part that MLK played through the use of civil disobedience(let in be known that I also understand the use of "militant" actions by such groups as the black panthers, Black Liberation Army, etc).
I have to take my daughter to the park. i will finish my commentary later. Here is the poem.
In a Sense
Can you see
Can you see
what you've done to me and mine
Beaten from our African birth
we still hurt from the sting
of your cutting lashes
leaving the scars of self hate
With no identity to uphold
to emotion, money, and stuff we pray
Can you hear
Can you hear
the cries of a people in chains
Captive to this soulless System
Born to everyday lock down
giving blood in distant battles
and sweat for labor you don't own
We wrap our curse in music
listen to the sound of our prison moan
Can you feel
Can you feel
the love of a wayward heart my Lord
Forgive the questioning doubts
that is the imperfect human
Your Body is our Body
I submit myself for your Grace
I was lost and now I'm found
Beyond my senses is my faith
