Actually courtney, the bereans would go back and research the things that paul was saying to make sure that he was correct. They couldn't compare the nt to the ot because the NT didn't exist during the time that Paul mentions them. So it was moor so the T'nakh that they thoroughly researched. oops i misspoke there didn't I What caused that is because it is IN the new testament. But what I meant was that the things that Paul talks about in the NT was "double checked" with the OT by the Bereans. What i am even more interested in is the doctrine of those that call themselves Bereans today. I have encountered a few of them on paltalk and don't get to many responses to my questions. If i understand it correctly they think there is no need to repent of our sins after Jesus died. Know any details 1dell?

I 1der if they are legit or are just calling themselves bereans. oops i misspoke there didn't I What caused that is because it is IN the new testament. oh yeah! I was in a christian chat room and they were being referred to as Bereans.. i did everything but put in 1 inch letters.. "what is a berean!!" No one ever answered me. What was so shocking to me was that they didn't believe you had to repent of your sins! I have an aquaintence on a Christian message board, the one i talked to about Genesis 6 - the site he gave me, which is the one i gave you in another thread - is fellowship of bereans.. I am hoping he will have some answers for me. If so, i will let you know. Oh ok, Well I didn't even know they still existed. I'll have to check that out. I have no info on them. here is one comment I got (not from the aquaintence I just mentioned):
"From what I can see most who call themselves bereans hold a pretty solid distinction between Israel and the chuch today.... Usually placing the "setting aside" of Israel sometime during or at the closing of the events in Acts.
To describe doctrine... The term "ultra or hyper dispensationalist" comes to mind....
Of course this is only what i've seen... "

I bet that is something that they developed over time and I am sure they have nothing to do with the original bereans.
Sweety, I just did some looking around. WHERE are these people that are calling themselves bereans? I mean really. The reason those people in the bible were called Bereans is because they were from Berea. In order to be a Berean you have to be from Berea. Being a berean is not a doctrine. Paul just commented on how the people from there when he visited Berea were studious in verifying all his info. Thats all. Thats prolly why they couldn't answer up. People just looking for some cool label to call themselves.
Act 17:10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming [thither] went into the synagogue of the Jews.
Act 17:13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.
Act 20:4 And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.
