Some alleged victims deny York molested them

BRUNSWICK - Five alleged victims named in the indictment against cult leader Malachi York denied Friday that he molested them.

The witnesses had been named by prosecution witnesses as victims of York.

An 18-year-old woman, named numerous times by other witnesses as having been molested by York, denied the molestation.

"That did not take place," she said. "I have never seen the defendant molest any children."

U.S. Attorney Max Wood didn't seem concerned about the denials and said the government has enough evidence, including the testimony of others who said they witnessed the molestations, to make the charges related to those witnesses stick.

"It's clear most of the witnesses testifying are loyal to the organization," he said. "They still have close ties."

Two witnesses gave detailed accounts of what happened on May 8, 2002, when about 300 federal and state agents raided the 467-acre compound of York's United Nuwaubian Nation of Moors in Putnam County.

"They basically told us that Dr. York molested us," said another 18-year-old girl, who is also an alleged victim but denied it. "They kept saying, 'We know what he did.'"

She described police cars and helicopters swooping onto the compound, and agents pointing guns at people.

"I was scared for my life," she said. "Until this day I still have nightmares about it. I think about y'all pointing guns at me and trying to shoot me. I don't think people realize what we went through that day."

She also accused agents of cursing and using a racial slur. Wood said he found that hard to believe, in part because the search force was racially diverse.

Another woman said agents used tear gas during the raid.

A total of 10 witnesses testified Friday for the defense and addressed issues other than the molestation allegations.

Many of the prosecution witnesses said they submitted to the molestations because they believed York was a god or a savior. Defense attorney Adrian Patrick asked every witness if they believed York was divine, and all said they did not.

Government attorneys asked some of the witnesses on cross-examination about Savior's Day at the Nuwaubian compound, a weeklong celebration that coincides with York's birthday. But the witnesses said they did not consider the name of the celebration to be a reference to York.

"When I think of Savior's Day, I think of Jesus," said Mildred Cosme, 39, who joined York's group in 1981.

The sister of an alleged male victim who testified York molested him as a child said her brother told her "his mother was pressuring him to assist in the case."

The defense witnesses also deny that York is the leader of the Nuwaubians. Every defense witness has given the same answer when Patrick asked that question.

"He's the founder," they have all responded, adding the group has chapters all over the world and has many leaders.

Patrick also showed the jury videos of various events at the Putnam County compound, and at York's home in Athens. Witnesses identified several of York's accusers in the videos who were dancing and appeared to be happy.

Witnesses have also refuted allegations that children were under-fed at the compound and lived in substandard housing. The defense's witnesses claimed children received three square meals a day, including lasagna, and had good living conditions. They also said that adults on the compound were free to come and go as they pleased, and children were restricted only for safety reasons.

Though Monday is a federal holiday, Judge Ashley Royal said the trial will go on. Patrick said his case will probably continue through Tuesday.

York, 58, is facing 13 counts of racketeering and transporting children across state lines for sexual purposes.

derail, prevent or delay our religious holiday, we will have 30,000 members
march to eatonton for a rally as members of rainbow/push coalition, naacp,

said organizations in an attempt to get as much publicity to protest these
injustices, and violation of our first amendment rights of our constitution
that protects our religion. mr. jimmy davis, county commissioner and mr. frank

A former middle school teacher is guilty of child molestation.
Houston County District Attorney Kelly Burke says Douglas Lee Jordan Jr. pleaded guilty to two counts of child molestation after the jury deadlocked.
Burke says as part of the plea bargain the charges of aggravated sexual battery and enticing a child for indecent purposes were dropped.
Jordan received a 10-year-sentence and must serve two years in prison. He is also banished from Houston County and cannot have contact with the victims in the case.
Jordan molested the teenage girls while he was a teacher at Warner Robins Middle School.

I just finished watching Law & Order CI...amazingly this was an episode dealing with pedophilia. I heard a term on there "Nambla". The persons being charged with sexual assault of minors all pleaded not guilty and claimed that they did not do anything the children didn't want! They said what they did was an act of love.
