My brother dj'ed back in the day so he has an extensive collection. Im talkin literally thousands! of 12 inch vinyl! he could fill up an entire bedroom with crates! I helped him collect the motown, and soul genre. There is this old white dude that runs a thrift shop strictly collectibles down near red hook section of bk. I'd go to him (this lasted for about 2 yrs. when I worked for L.I.C.H) and either sing or hum a tune and homeboy automatically new the artist, group and song title!!! Thats how good he was. And that is what helped me get all the music I contributed to my brother's collection. There is one song I am searching for again. You may know it (My brother lives in another state so he took the collection with him). I had asked this before on the board and I did find it. but wound up losing the paper where I wrote the info. on. Anyhow the song was made as a result of the 1977 blackout in nyc. The song's chorus line goes "where were you when the lights went out in new york city. Dont you know that I was making love...". I cant for the likes of me remember the title of the song, nor the group. I dunno if it was the 4 tops or spinners or some other group. Do you know the song Im talkin bout ? Bel Im tellin' ya U ever let me borrow your collection U aint gettin it back! Just kiddin'. When I got married I sold my collection and the stuff that was left got towed away in my car a year later. It threw a rod. I just moved in temporarily with sum friends and my records werent welcome there. I had to leave them in the car that was at the impound. After that I promised never to spend that much money on musik again. I had sum good stuff to in my opinion. Sounds like our tastes are the same.

Hmmm...Shuggie Otis? Either him or his wrote son "Strawberry Letter #22. The Brothers JOhnson did that joint back in the 70's. Otis Redding no relation. He was a soul singer on STAX records in the 60's. He died in a helicopter (or was it a plane) crash in the ocean. His most famous cut was "Sittin On the Dock of the Bay."

Gamaliel, You are sooo correct. That was the best kept secret until The Brother's Johnson re-did that song. Go to this site and listen to the music that Yunique put together: www.house-callz.com/html/najah.html
