I remember the day after I took my shahadah, I was informed by a brother named Jabril that "One of the brothers got beat down by the Five Percenters, We gotta throw down." Im like "HOLD UP, Did I just join a Gang?" When the Book of the Five Percenters came out, you best believe I stopped wearing my MAHDI BADGE. Cats was getting beat up. Tables were getting Turned over. Five Percenters would just snatch the books off the tables and be like "Yo, You can sell our information" and Ansaars didnt do shit. I stopped hanging around the Street Ansaars at that time and then started to concentrate more on learning Arabic and Islam. I didnt join the AnsaaruALLAH for this. I was in it to learn ISLAM. I remember there were times I could not Afford to go to JUMMAH in Brooklyn, I would have No problem going to any local Sunni Masjid. I didnt join a gang but around that time, it seemed like it. You know I'm coming with it using York's books! I used to watch Brooklyn Ansaars scrap in the streets with white businessman in NYC for small reasons and rest assured some Ansaars took some beatdowns! TumRe omitted the fact about York calling the Brooklyn Masjid (and many old timers are out of this Masjid) a criminal organization! These "Johnny's" know nothing of street fights and I mean outright physical bang outs with , Sunni Muslims, Nation Of Islam, and those Israelites that York said dressed, "Like the Isley Brothers". It was so bad at one point York had to pull Brothers off the peddling street because Ansaars were getting done up! York said he did it to avoid a "street-war" but the truth was these fights were nothing nice! check my words from some vets and they will tell you when the beauty products first came out they were real "hot' peddling goods! York shut down the beauty product distribution due to all the City Police heat he was getting for his humble/meek Ansaars selling bootleg and in some facts NARCOTICS! I never peddled nor was a community member yet my HOMIEZ were! York did consider these "Johnny's" punks and on the "Johnny's" watch York got locked down! A lot of Old Timers joined the community for room and board and to escape street retaliation! These "Johnny's" think it's all about a Nuwaubian picnic and Easter egg Hunt they have no idea how this "thang" was built and the literal B-L-O-O-D spilled!!!

True indeed Ansaars tables were being turned over like a Mo-Fo! I recall a Ansaar brother who was one of my "Homiez" "tabliyqing" at Penn Station on 34th Street (subway side)and 7th Ave...Well he had a pretty prominent "rush hour ' location and was surrounded by 3 Brothers who were 5 %'s and they were versing the doctrine! Well when I rolled up in my uniform for the time (double breasted suit, silk tie, stacey adams "gators) they did not know at the time my fetish for Islaam and ANSAAR designation I was just another "looky lou"! Well, my HOMEY got real cocky with the 5%'s and felt because I had his back and well versed in the doctrine "Let's kick the ballistics"! Well the bro's from the 5% nation chilled on there own and left even though the White Wearing Ansaar did his best to get something goin'! The ANSAAR was relieved they left and revealed his "BOWIE" knife under the table if it "got hot"! I ripped him verbally and left knowing I was close to "scrapping" for the dumb-dumb! Yeah GTO it was a "gang thang" and York could never deal with P-U-N-K-S! York would bang it out like he's doing right now of course back then he was coming up like TONY MONTANA! What attracted brothers to York was that yeah we're righteous, respectable, and reasonable yet he propagated a "Let's Rumble" vibe in those days(say hello to my little friend)...Blessed are the PeaceMakers Yo vets remember this, "We are the ANSAAR to your problems"..Respects! I remember the day after I took my shahadah, I was informed by a brother named Jabril that "One of the brothers got beat down by the Five Percenters, We gotta throw down." No not at all! That's the'gear' I sported as I rolled up to the table! Brothers were always selling me," you could do great things in the community "yet I never FELT it like that! I was referred to as one of those outside the community! That Louis Vuitton briefcase I sported every day to the job was typically stocked with a Quraan, Ansaar Allah books (Remember the scroll "How Prophet Muhammad Read the Quraan still in my possession), and maybe even some Blue Nile oil ! The Brothers gave me big respect but I could never move in because "something, something" just wasn't right! I was always given big respect due to "my depth of the doctrine" and other worldy persona! It used to be interesting literally versing/debating "The Pale Arabs" on the streets. The visual: 1 brother an Ansaar and another Brother (myself) suited down taking Muslims born in Islaamic countries to task on ISLAAM! You have to admit York taught a brand of ISLAAM that even those born in these Islaamic countries could not win a debate and walked away impressed! there was times when there would be 25 to 50 people near my HOMIEZ tables watching the debates and being overwhelmed with how we constantly dazzled these ARABS! That's the backbone of York's rise "Jamiyatul ANSAAR Allah"! Respects... You gave that up to be an Ansaar?

That was NOT the "story" he told us sisters in the office. We were told that the brothers were whipping the 5% azzes out there. Now I know it was not so, and the reason why he stopped selling the 5% book, and only gave it away when someone requested one. Thanks for the info.

If only had he stayed on that path, and there was NO MOLESTATIONS nor the PIMPING of the people, then maybe it could have been great, even in the face of all the controversies calling oneself Muslim now a days!

So TRUE! I had a strong 'Islaam" thing back in those days! I would debate Imaam's From Jordan, Saudi Arabia, etc. and trounce them thoroughly based on the teachings out of Brooklyn, NY...This gave the veracity of what York was teaching! I also liked the mysticsm associated and the Extra Terrestrial reality! Those who were'nt DOWN then can not track when York started to slip...York always taught back then, "You can not bind partners with ALLAH." My perception is he started to slip. "Was it the binding"...Maybe This is where I give respect to York as a teacher. I was atracted to Islaam and wanted to learn all about it. If only had he stayed on that path, and there was NO MOLESTATIONS nor the PIMPING of the people, then maybe it could have been great, even in the face of all the controversies calling oneself Muslim now a days!

Peace- I remember growing up in New York in the Mid 80's when the Ansaars had respect. Meaning All of the Groups such as the Gods and Earths the Nation of Islam and the Ansaars were Cordial to each other--WE KNEW who the Devil was. Yeah there was good debates during the mid eighties in Penn staion, Jamiaca Ave, HEPSTEAD Bus terminial."Big Ups" I loved reading Dr. York's books, back then called Imaam Isa. Dr. York created something called the NUBIAN NATION- where dr.york gave the impression that he was going to hook ALL of the groups together ie. nation of Islam, Gods and Earths--all in 1 group. Back then It sounded like a good Idea. THEN- Dr. York started to diss everybody. The WHOLE VIBE CHANGED with 1 book. 360 QUESTIONS TO ASK A SUNNI MUSLIM. Those Ansaars were PETRO-FIED. The brothers that were in the community or were Jalabiyah ansaars used to call us MAHDI PATCH WEARING ANSAARS--Hey I was 13-14 years old didn't know any better. We some how were like security or lookout men for other groups coming to scrap. Times also changed wher THE BOOK OF THE 5 PERCENTERS came out. Tables were turned over, the brothers stated to wear all black. Thats when I seen dr. york as a lyer. I was at the Allah School in Mecca/5% school in harlem the day the book came out. Its was amazing--That's when the old God said that the book was FEDERALY SPONSERED ISLAM. I said what did that mean. Then I thought about it, this dude is an agent. He is not for the liberation of our People. I seen many discrepensies in the book. And from that day on I said this dude was a clown. And thats also the same time that the brothers didn't get no respect. TRUTH IS TRUTH.

My WORD IS BOND!!! Thanks for adding on to the back in the Day reality the purpose of this thread for the "johnny Come Lately's" WE speak the truth and yes truth is truth! Also during that time "hip hoppers" were huge on the MESSAGE rap scene! Songs like "You're heading for Self Destruction" where rappers prominently wore the MAHDI flag in the video! MelleMel, Dougie Fresh, my man LL Cool J (Todd Smith) supped with York! Queen Latiyfah's Ladies First video she sports the "Mahdi Flag" button. We were pushing that "thang" and were having full effect! My NBA Homiez would roll with me to the Hall of knowledge and York referred to us as the Danaakiyl Tribe 100% Hadendawa (the backbone of the Mahdi's army)...The debates were hot and I remember brothers coming up to me in the street and saying, "Yo Yo there he go" I remember when Nelson Mandela came to NY to have a rally at Yankee Stadium my Ansaar homey in PennStation had a great location and all those Brothers and Sisters heading to the Bronx to see Mandela were asking us for directions! My "homey' made a GRIP that night and that was the time York released pictures of the PROPHETS that we had plastered over the walls! I can't tell y'all how many celebs use to stop by on the regular and "kick it with us" in the bowels of a train station! Q-Tip (rapper A Tribe Called Quest) was a regular visitor and kicked me down show passes on the reg! Yes ShamGod you speak the truth...WORD IS BOND! They use to call me an MAHDI PATCH ANSAR and YEAH, I was 14 yrs old. They told me that I should leave my house, still go to school and sell after school. My parents are from the Islands so you know they werent having that. When the Book of the 5% came out, I have been studying for about 2 years then decided to take my shahadah I was 15. My heart beat was racing, When I did it, i saw all the other guys around me who were witnessess. Some were Looking like Bums, Some had Gold Teeth, Some had Missing Teeth, They were Str8 up Thugs. I was a naive Hiphop "De la Soul " Looking Nerd back then, always studying like the Mahdi. I had to ask my self "Did I Do the Right Thing?" Then When that dude Jabril told me that We got Beef With the 5%ers, I was like "DAMN!" The beef was at HEMPSTEAD BUS TERRMINAL. WHEN IS THE BOOK COMING OUT D.H.?! The SHAHAADAH, The 5 Pillars of Islaam, and the Nifsu Min Shabaan! Remember that...The Fast of Ramadaan! Any of you "JOHNNY COME LATELY"S" fast for 30 days and know the proper way to Break Fast! How about ablution/wuduw the proper way to wash before prayer and entering the masjid..Huh? I remember the day after I took my shahadah, I was informed by a brother named Jabril that "One of the brothers got beat down by the Five Percenters, We gotta throw down." Im like "HOLD UP, Did I just join a Gang?" When the Book of the Five Percenters came out, you best believe I stopped wearing my MAHDI BADGE. Cats was getting beat up. Tables were getting Turned over.
