We are going to study the bible together online. We will take each verse, each chapter, each book as a new thing. AS if we have never read the book before. And that means that we can go backwards over the info we have already covered but not forward. Each discussion will be in the present. That means we can take into consideration no scripture that we have not already covered. Example. If we are reading Genesis 5:4 we can reference anything from Gen 5:3 on back to Genesis 1:1 but nothing in Genesis 6, until we reach Genesis 6. not any other verse ahead of us in scripture. Like I said, we are reading this book as if we never read it before and if you never read a book before you wouldn't know what was up ahead.

The reason we are doing it like this is because there is much that we have preconcieved about the bible from false teachings in churches. It's important to read what the bible is saying versus what we have been told it's saying.

We will title a Post the Book of the bible we are studying at that time and all responses will go into that one thread.

You can post any thoughts, questions, comments you may have on anything dealing with the particular chapter of study. Since this is a bible supportive study we are only interested in sincere bible studiers, any bible bashers or naysayers will have their posts deleted. If you find a need to chime in (bible bashers) then start your own thread elsewhere. It's not that type of party. THis is a Pro-Bible discussion/study set forth for the edification of the believer. Yeah I said Believer.

I would suggest reading 5 chapters at a time up ahead of us to stay abreast. That way it will be moor like a reivew and it will give you time to contemplate, meditate on the scriptures which will deepen your knowledge and familiarity with the text.

I expect that this will take a very long time to complete the entire bible. And I don't expect everyone to remain disciplined to stay with me. And if that I find that happening and I will discontinue.

We will discuss one chapter a time, possibly every other day approaching a new chapter. That being the case Genesis chapter one will be given up to 2 days to be discussed.

Writing in the Time of Abraham By Abraham's day (c. 2050 B.C.) writing had already become hoary with age. Cylinder seals were invented about 3400 B.C., in the Warkan culture at Uruk, biblical Erech (Gen. 10:10), modern Warka on the Lower Euphrates in Babylonia. Writing soon followed. In the Red Temple of Uruk a number of clay tablets were found inscribed in the earliest known crude pictographic script (c. 3300 B.C.), the direct ancestor of cuneiform (wedge-shaped writing) of early Sumer (lower alluvial plain of the Tigris-Euphrates Valley). By Abraham's time Sumerian and later Babylonian cuneiform writing had become well-known and widespread. This fact is attested by finds at Kish, Larsa, Fara, Ur (Abraham's own town), Nippur, Eridu, Akkad, Lagash.

Writing in the Time of Moshe By the time of Moshe, 1520-1400 B.C. (early chronology), alphabetic writing had become common, as attested by the religious literature found at Ras Shamra (ancient Ugarit, 1929-37). The Ugaritic dialect (c. 1400 B.C.) is very close to Hebrew, so Moshe could have written the Torah in Old Hebrew.

Since Moshe was educated in Egypt, He could have also have written in Egyptian hieroglyphics. The Rosetta stone, discovered in 1799 at Rashid (Rosetta) at the westernmost mouth of the Nile, proved the key to deciphering ancient holy writing of Egypt.

Since Moshe was elevated to prominence in Egypt, he could also have written the Torah in Akkadian cuneiform. This fact is established by the discovery of the Tell-el-Amarna tablets in 1886, at Amarna in Egypt halfway between Cairo and Luxor. Written in Akkadian cuneiform, the international diplomatic language of the era, the Amarna Tablets belong to about 1380-1360 B.C., just after Moshe's death, when Ysra'al was entering Palestine.

The discovery of a great cuneiform library at Boghaz Keui (1906) in the Hittite center there shows that Babylonian writing and literature were widely spread throughout the world around 1400 B.C. The Code of Hammurabi dates three centuries earlier around 1700 B.C.

Archaeology fully demonstrates that Moshe could have written the Torah either in early Hebrew, Akkadian cuneiform or Egyptian Hieroglyphics, had he desired. The traditional view is that Moshe did write it substantially as we have it today. It is, accordingly, authentic, historical and reliable, worthy of the name Holy Inspired Scritpure.

The Higher critical view is that Moshe did not write it. It is a patchwork of discordant and conflicting oral traditions, written centuries after Moshe. The J tradition (using the name YHWH) was written c. 850; the E tradition, c. 750; D tradition (Deuteronomy), c 621 B.C.; and P, a priestly invention, c. 500 BC. It is, on this supposition, unauthentic, unhistorical and unreliable, a fabrication of men, not the work of God.

Reasons Why Moses Did Write the Torah
1. He was well qualified scholastically to do so (Acts 7:22), and there is no rational reason arcchaeologically, historically or in the nature of the case why he should not have done so. Would he have been so foolhardy as not to? Would he have been so unwise as to entrust his whole life's work and teaching to oral tradition, especially when he was the found and father of the Hebrew nation?
2. The Torah claims that Moshe wrote it, at least in part (cf. Ex 17:14; 24:4; 34:27; Num 33:2; Deut 31:19, 24-26).
3. The rest of the Bible claims that Moshe did so (Josh 1:7; 1 Kgs 2:3; Lk 24:44; 1 Cor 9:9).
4. Ishua himself claimed that Moshe wrote of Him (Jn 5:46-47; cf. Gen 3:15; 49:10; Num 24:17; Deut 18:15-18. etc).
