My nikka!! I knew you'd come thru! Let me add some first though:
Job 30:30 My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
Lam 5:10 Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine.
Just throwing in moor data for the equation with those. We can talk about those later. Some may argue that Job is not a hebrew or a jew. But he lived in the region because the River Jordan is mentioned in this book. I do not say these people were black but they have potention to get very dark. Now those palestinians we see today couldn't get "black" if they tried.
Lets look at how white is used:
Dan 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
Before we continue we can get an idea of the many uses for the word "white" just by this verse. We see that many will be made white. Dayum, how Michael Jackson-esque don't you think? or Does white mean to be made pure? To be purified is likened to being made white. And Wool, Snow are designated standards of whiteness and purity.
Lets look at your verses:
1Sa 16:12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he [was] ruddy, [and] withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this [is] he.
Ruddy in Ibry of course is Adomniy the same word is REd in :
Gen 25:25 And the first came out
red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.
Here are moor of your verses plus extra:
1Sa 17:42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was [but] a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
Sgs 5:10 My beloved [is] white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand.
Lam 4:7 Her Nazarites were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing [was] of sapphire:
Now you know my stance on all of these verses already. So I guess this is a dog and pony show style debate. lol. Meaning it's not really for innerstanding and comprehension but moor so for the eyes that are watching, So I'll just do a short version:
If all of them were ruddy or reddish, then why are they making mention of it in these verses as if it's some unique thing? If we are all Ruddy then why I would mention something that would be successfully assumed. Lets imagine we are in Haiti where everybody is black as hell. Wouldn't it be foolish for me to be haitian and right a book to haitians with lines like "He was black as hell" Haitians already know that so why waiste time even writing about it? LOL!
What I find interesting is if there is something UNIQUE about a person in the scriptures, then it is mentioned. Like Saul was head and shoulders Taller than everyone else. But they don't mention him being Ruddy, But they mention David being Ruddy. Why is that?
Besides, being Red to a brown people does that mean they were like europeans? You look at the Native Americans, even by the white men they were called Red. Thats what I am talking bout shawdy! The Hebrews were the complextion of native americans if you ask me. And there is no similarity betwixt palestinians and native americans:
I am trying to be fair so I'll post these:
Imagine a lightskinned brother among some darkskinned folked. Waht would they call him? a Redbone? Hell Look at Anav-Adamah, she is considered a red-bone and sista is mad brown hued.
Red carries with it a variety of complextions. So among brown people that red is closer to red than if a red person was among white people. Even white people acknowledge redness as darkness. It was white people that came up with the Name for the football team Washington Redskins. And look at the logo they chose:
dayum! Hey bro the first owner of the Washington Redskins was a Racist. Look at what he is calling Red. See how dark that is? Now if a WHITE racist is call that Red then how should WE see red from a book that THEY wrote?
Now when we see "my beloved is white and ruddy" we have been here before and that word White is better translated as Dazzling or Brilliant. Same with teh Nazarites. White refering to their level of purity, because that is what a Nazarite is, a man of ultimate purity because of his lifestyle.
I'm done
ok hold on a sec...
